Media literacy builds an understanding of the role of media in society as well as essential skills of inquiry and self-expression necessary for citizens of a democracy. However, media literacy is a totally unexplored issue in the country, neither in the public debate, nor in the formal education curricula.
For this purpose, Albanian Media Institute, aimed to provide a framework that will enable introduction of sustainable media literacy education into the national curricula. As a result, two textbooks were produced on the topic, as the first step in providing support for teaching media literacy. This project was covered with the support of Soros Open Society Foundation for Albania.
